Bachelors looking for more 'macho' kitchens
27 October 2008
A major interior designer has claimed that the days of bachelors kitting out their kitchens in black and chrome could be over, the Birmingham Mail reports today (October 27th).Stephen Ryan has been charged with reinvigorating the homes of many famous celebrity names, such as Hollywood couple Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Now he has suggested that the modern man may be turning his attentions to securing a more retro-style kitchen, with metallics being combined with more subtle, darker colours.
He told the newspaper: "Highly successful men who live fast-lane lives want their homes to be escapist, intimate sanctuaries where they feel instantly relaxed.
"Their rooms need to have a womb-like feel with dark colours, rich grained woods and luxury textures, maybe leather, suede, and faux fur. These are places where no expense is spared but the look is under-stated rather than showy."
Nevertheless, Mr Ryan was also at pains to point out that creating something visually stunning was still in vogue, despite the popularity of James Bond-inspired "macho" home improvements.
Ms Zeta-Jones recently bought her parents a new £2 million home on the coast of Swansea.
