Britons 'going green' with their home improvements
17 November 2008
New research released today (November 17th) has suggested that environmentally-conscious Britons are taking a green approach to making home improvements.Halifax Home Insurance conducted a survey which found that around one in ten are using green and reclaimed materials, while 64 per cent are considering using them in the future.
In addition, the study revealed that 48 per cent intend to make a conscious effort to be greener when they make improvements to their properties, not least in relation to conservatories.
David Rochester, head of underwriting at the firm, said: "There has been a growing trend for 'going green' over the past few years in terms of eating, travelling and recycling, and this is now extending to the home as Brits become increasingly eco-conscious.
"Items such as fireplaces, baths and tiles have traditionally been popular, but many households are now likely to consider solar panels or wind turbines."
Furthermore, many Britons will undoubtedly be considering adopting smaller alterations which can save energy, such as more efficient doors and double glazing.
Figures from the Energy Efficiency Partnership for Homes suggest that around £6.8 billion is wasted on energy in the UK every year.
