Brits home makeovers 'influenced by celeb culture'
04 September 2008
Celebrities and home makeover shows will always play an influential role in people's home improvement and interior design choices. That is according to one expert, who has explained that this phenomenon is likely to become even more commonplace as magazines and TV shows allow Britons even more glimpses into the homes of the rich and famous.
"Look at the phenomenal success that Grand Designs has become in the last few years, people want to see how others live to help them in the constant quest to better themselves," argued Jason Pardesi, a designer for Apropos.
"Magazines and the TV have always played a massively influential role in the style and content of people's houses and they are only too happy to show the public how Cliff Richard lives in his Docklands penthouse," he added.
These comments are backed up by figures recently published by the British Retail Consortium, which show that the UK DIY market is likely to be worth £16.1 billion in 2008, a 17.7 per cent increase on 2003 levels.
