Brits prepared to pay more for green products
18 April 2008
Four in ten Brits are prepared to pay extra for environmentally-friendly products and services, according to a new poll by cahoot. The bank has found that women are more likely than men to make green decisions - with 69 per cent of women hunting down eco-friendly goods, compared to 58 per cent of men.
Conscientious consumers are prepared to pay up to ten per cent more, on average, for products that help protect the environment.
Though the majority are making eco-friendly decisions when they visit the supermarket, by purchasing locally sourced produce for example, the most financially sound green options start at home.
Matthew Timms, director of cahoot, acknowledges that "as economic conditions become tougher and belts are tightened, it's going to be difficult to keep buying more expensive environmentally-sound products".
Some of the most effective products help lower your carbon footprint while reducing monthly bills, by making heating and fuel go further.
These include more efficient boilers, or enhanced insulation and double glazing, which can assist in the retention of heat in the home.
Double glazing also reduces the impact of external noise pollution and can make your home more desirable to prospective buyers.
