CLG: House price growth slows to 6.7%

21 April 2008
Government figures show that annual property price growth slowed to 6.7 per cent in February, though certain areas continue to shine.

Nationally, the typical home slipped in value by 1.6 per cent in February, the Communities and Local Government data reveals.

This has contributed to a drop in annual house price inflation, which had reached a highpoint of 12.3 per cent in July last year.

Nevertheless, prices continue to increase in parts of the Midlands and north-west, while values are up 9.7 per cent and 9.5 per cent over the course of the past 12 months in London and Scotland respectively.

And despite the limited availability of mortgages at present, many buyers are still in the hunt for property.

Sellers have been urged to catch the eye of house hunters with modern improvements, such as a new kitchen or double glazing.

The latter has been shown to improve heat efficiency in the home, thus reducing energy consumption, while also helping to block out external noise.ADNFCR-1051-ID-18561401-ADNFCR
