Double glazing helps reduce carbon footprint

14 May 2008
Installing double glazing and insulation is particularly important for real estate owners, particularly in the commercial property sector.

This is according to Iain Brown, facilities management director of the property management company Bruntwood, which specialises in sustainable projects.

The expert emphasised in an interview with the Manchester Evening News the importance of forwarding planning and long-term thinking when it comes to climate change.

"Investing wisely at the outset leads to longer lifecycles, less waste and greater value for money," he told the evening paper.

"A range of options are available here - from double glazing to extra insulation."

The Bruntwood specialist pointed out that the "biggest opportunity to reduce wasteful consumption" is by trying to make more consumers make green choices, at the right times, to help save money.

"If you can get the fabric of the building right in the first place then that has the potential to cut carbon emissions, which saves you money," he concluded.

The firm is trying to demonstrate this fact by installing smart meters to monitor the typical energy use across two million square feet of its property portfolio.

Founded in 1977, the management company currently employs more than 30,000 staff and accommodates more than 1,000 businesses in its leased offices.ADNFCR-1051-ID-18594224-ADNFCR
