Double glazing 'increases home value'
09 May 2008
Installing double glazing can increase the value of your property by as much as 3.75 per cent, according to a Which? Money expert.Writing in the Manchester Evening News, the publication's editor Martyn Hocking observed that the latest window technology could offer a host of benefits that would appeal to prospective buyers.
Professionally installed double glazing can not only help cut fuel bills by minimising heat loss, but can also block out external noise, said the Which? specialist.
These benefits equate to a boost in the value of a typical home of around 3.75 per cent, he estimated, particularly if the window style is in keeping with the period of the property.
Modernising your kitchen and bathrooms can deliver equally lucrative returns, Mr Hocking continued.
Since the kitchen is often the focal point of a home, the expert insisted that kitting it out with the latest mod cons could increase the value of an average property by around four per cent.
A new bathroom could deliver a boost in the region of two per cent.
Since all newly marketed homes now require energy performance testing, green improvements are increasingly desirable.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, loft insulation alone can slash energy bills by up to £110 per year.
