Home location is top buyer concern
09 May 2008
Location is the top priority for the majority of house hunters, a new poll shows.More than four fifths of Home Sale Network members surveyed by the estate agent Manning Stainton said that location topped the list of buyers' considerations.
Nineteen per cent also intimated that garaging or driveway parking was an significant factor, though the standard of interior decoration featured relatively low on this list.
"There is a lot of truth in the saving buy the worst house on the best street, rather than the best house on the worst street," commented Russell Manning of Manning Stainton.
The results of the survey suggest that many house hunters are not put off by properties in poor condition, though few respondents highlighted the importance of improvement potential.
According to the editor of Which? Money, savvy renovations can add significantly to the value of a home.
Installing double glazing, for instance, can boost the value of the typical property by around 3.75 per cent, Martyn Hocking writes in the Manchester Evening News.
Kitchen renovations can add in the region of four per cent, while a new bathroom could add an extra two per cent, the Which? Money editor also said.
