Most couples share financial decisions

13 March 2008
Most men believe they are in control of household finances, though only six per cent of women concede this, according to a new poll.

The Halifax survey shows that 57 per cent of British men claim to be the financial decision-maker, compared to 36 per cent of women.

Most younger households opt to make joint decisions and only three per cent of men admit their partners call the shots.

The poll found that 59 per cent of couples aged between 25 and 34 share big decisions, more than any other age group.

Jaedon Green, head of mortgage development at the Halifax, said: "No matter who holds the purse strings, whether it's you, your partner or both, it's important to seek sound financial advice to aid your decision."

Consulting your other half on home improvement issues is highly recommended in the interests of avoiding conflict.

One such upgrade that should not involve much persuasion is double glazing, proven to reduce the impact of outside noise and help reduce fuel costs.ADNFCR-1051-ID-18509105-ADNFCR
