Pensioner wins £5,000 home makeover
31 October 2008
A pensioner from Birmingham was delighted after she won a special home improvement award, the Birmingham Mail reported on Monday (October 27th).Jennifer Court, 70, collected five Homeserve tokens and entered a competition by attaching them to a coupon and sending them off to the company.
Although she had not held out much hope, she was thrilled to be informed that she had been picked for the exclusive prize of a £5,000 home makeover.
Having completed improvements in several other rooms in her property with husband Desmond, 72, she decided that the prize would be best used to renovate her kitchen.
She told the newspaper: "My kitchen was the last room which needed attention. It isn't bad but it was last done about 11 years ago and it's tired-looking and the appliances are old.
"I do like cooking and do spend a lot of time in there. We're so happy. A new kitchen for 2009."
Mrs Court also confirmed that she will be putting her suggestions relating to new units and a new stove to a surveyor.
Homeserve was originally established in 1993 as 'Fastfix' - a joint venture between South Staffordshire Water and Richard Harpin.
