Sellers urged to price homes 'realistically'

22 April 2008
With 40 per cent fewer people predicted to move home this year than last, homeowners looking for a sale are urged to price their homes realistically.

Fewer buyers means less competition and less speculation, putting pressure on sellers to make their homes stand out from the crowd, while retaining a tempting price tag.

The financial advice service MoneyhighStreet is one of many specialists encouraging homeowners to price their properties sensibly to prevent frustration.

Property website Rightmove reports that the average asking price fell by 0.1 per cent between March 16th and April 12th, bucking consistent rises in demands over recent months.

Experts from the portal expect to see increasingly realistic demands lead to more sales over the summer.

Straightforward improvements before marketing can also help make your home as valuable as you hope it could be.

Since energy performance testing is now an obligatory step in the selling process, prospective sellers should consider green upgrades that can help reduce fuel wastage.

These include double glazing, which helps retain heat and insulate against the cold, further insulation, or an efficient new boiler.ADNFCR-1051-ID-18563019-ADNFCR
