Double Glazing
I’d definitely recommend it to anyone
Mr Brown’s secondary double glazing
Mr Brown lives in a Grade II listed timber frame and thatch roofed house that is over 500 years old. In keeping with its age, the windows in the house are ‘leaded lights’ set in metal frames within the main oak framing.
In 2005 he decided to get secondary double glazing fitted throughout the house, because the Grade II listing meant that he would not get permission to install new windows and the existing ones were slightly draughty and did not provide as much security as he wanted.
Soon after the installation of the glazing, Mr Brown wrote to Everest praising their work and the quality of their windows. Mr Brown went on to say: “We decided to go to Everest because they had worked on two other properties of mine and I had been very happy with their work.
“The installation of the glazing only took a couple of days and the workmen were very efficient, helpful and tidy.
“The glazing blends in very well and doesn’t take anything away from the original windows, which I feel is important in such an old traditional-style home. Because the windows are old and quite irregular in shape they used trimming to make sure that they fitted snugly to the frames.
“I’ve opted for a sliding version of the glazing, but I also had the choice of an inwards opening or sash version. From a security point of view the glazing can’t be opened from the outside, which makes it almost impossible to break in.”
Indeed, Mr Brown was initially prompted to write to Everest because he had already benefited from the additional security the secondary double glazing affords. On News Year’s Eve 2005/06, not long after the glazing was fitted, thieves attempted to break in by forcing open one of the windows. Although they were able to open the outer window, the thieves were stopped by the secondary window, fitted by Everest, and left the property empty-handed.
Mr Brown said: “Even the police were surprised at how secure the glazing was. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone with old windows like mine.”
