Q.

Does Everest use Pilkington-K Glass?

Pilkington K is a low emissivity hard-coated glass which was often used in double glazed windows. At Everest we can offer Pilkington K glass if required.

However, glass technology has now moved on beyond the Pilkington K glass and for that reason our standard sealed units use a soft-coated, low-emissivity glass which is more energy efficient to meet current building regulation standards, and does not have the slightly brown tint that characterises Pilkington K glass.

For more information about the glass types we use, or ask one of our specialists to talk you through your options when you make a free, no-obligation appointment for a home visit.

Q.

What are the colour options Everest Conservatories and Orangeries?

At Everest we try to offer as much choice as possible to help you to achieve the perfect look for your home.

Everest PVCu conservatories are available in gloss white or in a mahogany, golden oak, rosewood , white, cream or black woodgrain effect.

Everest timber Conservatories are treated with either three coats of micro-porous paint or two coats of natural stain which allows the timber to breath and provides a fully finished product. Our fully automated finishing plant provides a high build uniform paint finish in a choice of 25 standard colours (See Materials and Colours page for full details) and five standard natural wood finishes (Mahogany, Teak, Walnut, Light Oak and Antique Oak). This service provides the equivalent of over ten coats of paint applied by a painter using a brush. And other RAL option is available at an additional surcharge.

ALUMINIUM RANGE

Aluminium conservatories and glass extensions are available six colours (White, Black, Mocha Brown, Dove Grey, Magnolia and Charcoal)

If you make an appointment to have one of our specialists visit you at home, they’ll be able to talk you through our colour options and which materials might be best suited to the overall style of your house. You can also go to our materials and colours page for more information.

Q.

What wood is used in Everest timber Conservatories or Orangeries?

At Everest we use different types of wood for different products. All wood is chosen for its qualities and suitability for the specified use. Timber availability and price fluctuates and we may change the types of wood used in order to offer the best possible value for money.

Everest Conservatories are manufactured solely from hardwoods which include PEFC certified Idigbo and FSC & PEFC certified Laminated Red Cedar. All the hardwood used conforms to BS1186 class 1 and is naturally resistant to wood rot and fungal attack. The natural oils present in the timber also make it resistant to moisture penetration.

Q.

PEFC is an international non-profit, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) through independent third-party certification.

Q.

What guarantees do you offer?

A new conservatory is a significant investment for any home, and that’s why Everest conservatories are built to last and come with a set of long-term guarantees to ensure that you keep getting the best from your purchase for years to come. The products that go into making your conservatory have been tested and conform to British Standards and the conservatory roof system is BBA accredited - a testament to the quality of the Everest conservatory.

To ensure your conservatory won't move or sink over time, we'll conduct a comprehensive site survey to determine the best base for your property. Based on the survey, our team will build either a structural traditional foundation to at least a depth of 1.0m, or where ground conditions dictate we'll engineer specialised piled foundations. All base and building works undertaken by Everest are constructed within Building Regulation guidelines and are fully insulated, damp-proofed and reinforced, so you can rest assured that every measure has been taken to prevent movement and provide you with a room for all seasons.

From the date of installation, a 10 year guarantee is offered on all conservatories and bases built by Everest. These guarantees protect you in the case of a fault due to defective materials or construction. You can even opt to extend your guarantee by a further 5 years to give you peace of mind and a comprehensive, industry leading 15 year guarantee. Also, the sealed units in our wall frames come with a lifetime guarantee.

See our guarantees section for more information.

We’re currently offering a free upgrade to our Ultimate Neutral Glass if you purchase a conservatory this month. This state-of-the-art glass technology combines the best possible roof glazing options into one revolutionary unit, further reducing overheating in the summer while remaining thermally efficient during the winter months.

Q.

How safe will my conservatory be?

The safety of our products is naturally a paramount concern at Everest. We use the highest specification toughened glass in our conservatories which conforms to both British Standard BS6206 Class A and BS5713. This looks like ordinary glass but receives a special heat treatment process to toughen it. The result is not only a much stronger glass but in the unlikely event that the glass is broken, it will shatter into small, harmless fragments rather than into sharp and dangerous pieces.

For more information on our toughened safety glass, take a look at our glass options page.

Q.

Are there any restrictions to my proposed Conservatory Design?

At Everest all of our conservatories are made to measure. We’ll make every effort to facilitate the requirements of our customers, and we can usually handle any size of conservatory requested from small porches to large grand designs. Restrictions on size and design will usually depend on your chosen style of conservatory and the size of your property, plus any issues with planning permission and building control, which Everest will always attempt to take care of for you.

Our advisors will be able to discuss all of this with you in more detail during your free consultation.

Q.

How much will my conservatory cost?

All Everest conservatories are tailored to your unique requirements. We work extensively with all of our customers to find out what your requirements are, and then we shape your conservatory design around them. This commitment to providing individually tailored quality is central to the Everest business ethos.

Because of this versatility of design, we work out costs according to your exact requirements rather than giving standard prices. To discuss your vision for your new conservatory and to get a quote, simply make a free, no-obligation appointment to meet with one of our home improvement specialists.

Q.

Are you members of the GGF, Conservatory Association or FENSA?

Everest are one of the founding members of the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF). GGF members are required to protect consumers deposits, to raise standards in the industry for both product and installation processes and offer independent arbitration through the GGF should the need arise.

Everest are also founding members of the Conservatory Association whose members are obliged to use only products that comply with the relevant British Standards Institution and Conservatory specifications. All members also comply with the GGF publication "A Guide to Good Practice in the Specification and Installation of conservatories within the United Kingdom".

In addition Everest are members of FENSA . FENSA stands for Fenestration Self Assessment Scheme and is the leading body providing homeowner protection in the double glazing industry. FENSA ensures that installations comply with the Building Regulations for England and Wales and, although most conservatories are exempt from Building Regulations, you can be ensured that the quality of the installation will meet Building Control and FENSA requirements.

Q.

Do we need planning permission?

Some conservatories will require planning permission from your local council. This depends upon several factors including the size of the conservatory, the classification of your property type and how the conservatory will be integrated into the house. Everest will take care of any planning requirements for you, contacting your local authority, preparing and submitting plans, and managing the application through to a determination, whilst always keeping you well informed of the progress at every stage.

Everest submits each planning application, where feasible, through the governments Planning Portal Website to reduce lead time AND provide a better service for each application. Everest are one of the first companies to sign up to Planning Portal’s Carbon Pledge to confirm their commitment to maximise CO² savings by submitting all planning applications online.

For more information, visit the planning permission section of our website.

Q.

What is the difference between Planning and Building Regulations?

Planning Permission and Building Regulations are often confused. Both are the responsibility of the Local Authority. Planning Permission deals with the aesthetic effect of a new extension on the surrounding homes and neighbourhood, whilst Building Regulations defines how the conservatory must be constructed in regards to structural stability and thermal efficiency.

Most Conservatories are currently exempt from Building Regulations but Everest will assist in determining what applications are required and will deal with any planning and building requirements for you, whilst always keeping you well informed at every stage.

As every Everest conservatory is constructed within Building Regulation guidelines you can be rest assured that even if a Building Control application is not required your conservatory is built to last.
