Is your conservatory bright enough?

Now 2012 is well and truly underway it may be time to think about starting those home improvements and decorating plans you've probably had in mind since last year.

What's more, with 40 per cent of people making financial resolutions this year and 31 per cent planning to save money, Brits may find themselves with some spare cash to carry out their refurbishments.

However, with the typical amount of family debt increasing by an average of 48 per cent in 2011, many will want their home revisions to be cheap and cost effective.

One room in which small changes can make a massive difference is in the conservatory and this year to be on trend people are being advised to try neon.

Although it is tempting to draw on images of 90's raves, glow sticks and brightly coloured lycra when thinking about neon, this season is all about doing neon with a difference.

It is important to remember that when using bright colours little is often more. If people master this rule then neon can make a space fun, vibrant and full of personality.

Katie Crolla, designer at NoChintz, explains that when used carefully bright hues can be applied to "all areas of your home".

If you don't want to be too adventurous, there is a lot of great wallpaper around at the minute that uses neon accents.

It will pay, however, to think about how the wallpaper with sit with its surroundings in your conservatory. For example, if your garden is full of pinks and oranges try to incorporate this into your wall paper.

Accessories and furniture are also vital tools for injecting colour into a space in a subtle way. Try a 1960s-style chair in neon to introduce vibrancy and interesting shapes into a space. If teamed with an otherwise minimal design scheme this will also make a dramatic statement and draw the eye.

Alternatively, Ms Crolla suggests "Kitsch, neon lighting used in the correct way" to create "a tongue-in-cheek, modern effect".ADNFCR-1051-ID-801286997-ADNFCR
