Light up your kitchen

Some 18 per cent of Brits are cutting down on electricity costs by limiting the amount of time their lighting is in use.

With inflation on the cost of lighting increasing by 7.45 per cent, families are holding back on utilities.

However, having the right lighting in your kitchen is important if you want to ensure that the room has a certain ambience.

Complementary lighting is even more vital in a bespoke kitchen, as it can complement the shapes and colours of units and fixtures.

Consciously thinking about your lighting plan can also help to improve the energy efficiency of properties, by making sure that unnecessary energy is not being wasted.

According to Natalie Timmerman, spokeswoman for Light IQ, there is an increasing demand for LED lighting in the UK.

"Clients are very interested in LED Technology at present for the great benefits in terms of efficiency and maintenance and life expectancy if compared to halogen and incandescent light sources.

"The life expectancy of good quality LEDs is quoted as 50,000 hours and beyond, equivalent to 15-20 years in a residential environment."

Having a long expectancy on your kitchen lighting is exceptionally beneficial during the winter, as it is on for much longer.

With nine per cent of Brits failing to turn the light off when they leave the room, this factor becomes especially important.

Moreover, as LED is becoming much more affordable, it is now one of the most efficient forms of lighting.

Companies have invested significant funds in LED research, according to Ms Timmerman, which has made technology more readily available - driving down costs.

Continued research is also set to lead to organic LEDs for the commercial market in the next couple of years.

Although one in ten (11 per cent) of consumers thinks that the extra expense of energy efficiency products is a waste of money, making a conscious decision to use energy efficient lighting has been proven to decrease energy costs. ADNFCR-1051-ID-801262370-ADNFCR
