FAQs

Choosing a new conservatory can be a daunting task, so to help you here are some popular FAQs which you might find useful.

  • +
What is the best type of conservatory?
Home design is an incredibly subjective topic and so it’s very hard to say which is “best.” However, we can confirm that the most popular material is uPVC, the most commonly ordered style is the classic conservatory and the most sought after design is the Edwardian, so adding these together would give you a great additional living space that is easy to maintain.
  • +
Do I need planning permission for a conservatory?
In most cases, the answer is no, but there are certain checks you can make to see if permission will be needed or not. For further information, check out the Acquiring Permissions section in our Conservatories Buying Guide.
  • +
Why should I invest in a conservatory?
The main reason is to expand the living space within your home. If it can provide enough room to keep you having to move house then it is a worthy investment that can help save stress as well as money. Also, the addition of a conservatory can help create a tranquil space between your home and your garden, helping you enjoy views of the outdoors from the comfort of your extended home.
  • +
How do I know if I need a conservatory?
This depends on many factors, such as the amount of space already available within your home, as well as what you do for a living or as a hobby. If your favourite pastime is painting but there is no space to do it, there is little more inspirational than standing in a well lit room with good views of the outdoors. If you host a lot of parties and family gatherings, this may well act as the perfect space, and if you are into your gardening, then this could prove the perfect portal between your garden and your home. Our view is if there is a clear benefit to improving your lifestyle and you can afford it then why not build one? If you select a quality who specialises in conservatory extensions then this is something you will only have to do once in your entire life.
  • +
    Are conservatories expensive?
There are so many elements that go into making a conservatory that prices can range from £15,000 - £100,000 and more. The important thing is to know what you want the space for and then, with a ballpark budget in mind, discuss your options with an expert consultant.
  • +
How do I care for my conservatory?
We design our products with convenience in mind and our uPVC and aluminium conservatories are virtually maintenance free, with an occasional wipe down with some warm, soapy water enough to keep them looking as good as new for many years to come. As a natural material, timber requires slightly more looking after, but again they can be maintained with an occasional wipe down. Our advice with timber is to make sure you have good guarantees against material so you are covered if they do warp over time. As our timber conservatories are made from hardwood, the wood grows slower, maintaining its quality for a vast number of years.
  • +
Are all conservatories the same size?
No. Conservatories are bespoke, which means they are made to the homes’ and homeowners’ specific requirements. They can be constructed in a whole manner of shapes and sizes, but more often than not, these issues are dictated by the position of underlying drains and other similar factors.
