Mr W lives in a detached red brick bungalow in Peterborough. An attractive and spacious property that had adequate windows, cladding and roofline, but he wanted to replace his windows and roofline before they began to fail.

Getting ahead of making improvements, Mr W decided to invest in products that would still be performing in the decades to come. His brief was to future-proof his home with great looking, matching energy-efficient products that had longevity.

With 44% of homes in England still rated below EPC C, improving energy efficiency remains a priority for millions of homeowners, and windows and doors are one of the most visible places to start.

To really improve the aesthetics of his property, Mr W also opted for matching rooftrim, fascias & cladding in anthracite grey. The results were stunning.

Why Everest?

Mr W gathered three quotes from different suppliers to compare. He was straightforward with his feedback that “Everest was expensive,” but in his belief, “was the best product available”.

Mr W wasn't looking for the cheapest quote. He was looking for the product that would justify the investment over the long term, and he was prepared to pay for it. His starting point was to future-proof and finding the right quality product was more important than settling for cheap windows, roofline and cladding.

The design consultation

Like most people, Mr W is averse to a sales pitch and prefers a service that can walk him through the options and present all the information, so that he can make up his own mind.

Working with him, rather than pushing towards a predetermined product, our Everest consultant laid out the options and what each would cost, allowing Mr W to make an informed choice. Together, they settled on a scheme that balanced performance with a strong, coherent look for the whole property.

What a difference

The finished project has renewed almost every external element of the bungalow.

Across the property, seven uPVC flush casement windows and a five-part flush bay window replace the old frames, all double glazed and finished in appealing anthracite grey with heritage white on the internal faces.

The flush casement design offers clean, uncluttered lines that suit the bungalow's simple proportions. Against the warm red brick, the anthracite grey frames give the property a sharp, contemporary visual presence, while the heritage white interiors light up the room.

Two uPVC flush residential doors, including a utility door with a side window, were specified with triple glazing. And at the front, a Signature composite door in the Fraser design, flanked by two glazed side panels, provides a strong focal point for the entrance.

The project didn't stop at the windows and doors. Everest also replaced the complete roofline with guttering, fascia's, soffits and cladding. It's the part of a home most people never think about until rotten fascia's let water into the roof space.

Replacing the windows, doors and roofline in the same project means the whole exterior has visual integrity, finished to the same standard.

Installation & service

Two separate teams handled the work, one for the roofline and one for the windows and doors. Mr W reported no concerns with either and was very happy with how both teams carried out the installation.

Quieter from day one

The installation was completed in April, so Mr W hasn't yet had a winter to feel the full thermal benefit of his new windows and doors. What he noticed straight away was the sound. Since the installation, there's been a general reduction in noise, and the finished look is ‘aesthetically pleasing’.

Everest project summary

Mr W set out to future-proof his home, and the finished project does exactly that. The windows, doors and roofline have all been renewed, so nothing is left to fail over the years ahead.

The choices work together well. Smooth anthracite grey adds depth and character without dating, and pairs particularly well with warm red brick. Running it across the frames, the Fraser door and the gable cladding give the bungalow a consistent, considered look from every angle.

The benefits go beyond the way it looks. The home is already quieter and the triple glazed doors and double glazed flush windows will show their real value through the winter. The uPVC frames and roofline won't rot, rust, peel or flake, and the sealed units are guaranteed against fog and condensation between the panes.

Mr W's summary of Everest was the ‘best product available’, although he conceded that the products are ‘expensive’. He understood that to future-proof a home required quality products and a job that would be done properly, so it wouldn’t need to be done again.

Overall, Everest met expectations and delivered to the brief.
