The benefits of Everest orangeries

An Everest white uPVC orangery built on solid foundations

Solid foundations and built to last

Everest orangeries are built on solid foundations and we offer market leading base specifications. Our standard 1000mm deep concrete foundations create a strong base but where necessary we will also use a ‘piled’ foundation to suit ground conditions. We also use a unique reinforced wall frame design for unrivalled levels of security and supports and beams provide complete structural integrity so they won’t sag, twist or distort. With an Everest orangery you can rest assured that it is built to last.

Traditional style or a contemporary look

An Everest orangery can be customised to your specifications, whether you prefer a traditional orangery with a typical central glass roof, or a contemporary look, at Everest we have a wide range of options available to customise your orangery. Choose from Upvc, aluminium or timber and a wide range of colours, glass types, window styles and door handles to create your dream orangery. For a classic look we can also seamlessly hide outside gutters and inside wiring from view.

Enhanced security

A multi-point locking system, key-locking handles, hook-bolts and window hinge-side security as standard give you ultimate peace of mind. The sealed unit also includes laminated glass for maximum strength and safety glass can be fitted to break into harmless fragments if smashed.

Guaranteed for peace of mind

Everest orangeries feature a comprehensive 10 year guarantee on all our materials and workmanship, plus a 2 year guarantee on the paint finish.

Orangery FAQs

At Everest, we understand that choosing a new Orangery can be a daunting task. So to help you here are some frequently asked questions which you might find useful.

  • +
Is an orangery warmer than a conservatory?
An orangery is fundamentally a brick structure with large glass windows, so the brick will provide more insulation than a fully glazed structure. A conservatory is a structure predominantly made of glass so is naturally susceptible to fluctuations in temperature - hot in summer, cold in winter. Glass technology does mean that conservatories built today are far more energy-efficient than twenty or thirty years ago. On balance, a traditional orangery is slightly warmer than a conservatory. But, conservatories with quality glazing are not far behind.
  • +
Do you need planning permission for an orangery?
Planning permission is not necessary for all orangeries. Adding an orangery can be allowed under “permitted development” rules. That said, we always recommend you check whether full planning permission is required. Not only will this give you total peace of mind, but save you a great deal of money. Failure to check could be an expensive mistake should local authorities decide a conservatory was built illegally and it would need to then be removed.

  • +
    What is an orangery?
A traditional orangery shares common properties with an extension. It is a solid structure, with proportionally more brickwork than that of a conservatory, and a roof lantern rather than a fully solid or glazed rooftop. Orangeries can be distinguished by columns that sit beneath a roof formed of internal pelmets and glass panels.
  • +
    Do orangeries need foundations?
In order to be approved by building control, orangeries need to conform to the same standards as a typical extension. This means a minimum depth of one metre, but can be more if the ground is unstable.
  • +
Are orangeries warm in the winter?
They certainly should be if well built with quality materials. Ideally when constructed the walls and roof would contain insulation that meets UK building regulations. If your Orangery is cold in the winter it is worth investigating the level of insulation included. This can always be increased either with a retrofit or by changing the roof to one which comes pre-made with high levels of insulation.
  • +
Can you put a kitchen in an orangery?
With open plan living being in high demand, kitchen orangeries are becoming increasingly popular. An orangery feels like a natural extension to your home, allowing an abundance of light to flood through, making it a perfect choice for a kitchen. As with most kitchen extensions, planning permission is not required but it is advisable to check with your local authority prior to build.
