The problem - cold and leaking windows

Mr and Mrs T, owners of this gorgeous characterful property in Stroud, Gloucestershire, were dealing with a common problem for many older homes. Some of the existing windows were beginning to leak, letting in draughts and cold which impacted on the comfort of the rooms.

This wasn't their first experience with Everest products. Some of the windows already fitted to the property had been installed by Everest for the previous owner, so when the time came to replace more of the windows, Everest was a name and product they already knew.

What followed became a substantial whole-property project, with 24 aluminium casement windows, seven uPVC casement windows and a uPVC residential door with fixed side panel, all brought together in a distinctive Sage Green finish.

Getting the specification right

Mr and Mrs T worked with Everest Sales Consultant George to develop the specification. They described him as "well informed and helpful", and said the sales visit went very well.
The resulting project combined two different frame materials.

The majority of the property was fitted with 24 aluminium casement windows, chosen for their slim profiles and clean lines. A further seven uPVC casement windows were installed alongside them, together with a uPVC residential door and fixed side panel.

Using different materials across one property can easily result in a fragmented appearance. Here, the Sage Green finish brings the entire scheme together, giving the windows and door a consistent colour palette despite their different specifications.

Sage Green is particularly effective against natural stone. Rather than creating the harder contrast of black or anthracite grey, the muted green sits comfortably alongside the warmer, natural tones of the building.

A bespoke installation into Cotwolds stonework

The aluminium windows presented a more unusual technical challenge.

The frames needed to be designed to fit directly within the property's existing angled stonework apertures. Unlike a standard installation, the windows have no projecting external sills, which meant the drainage arrangement also had to be incorporated differently.

As a result, the aluminium frames use a system allowing water to drain through the face of the frame where a conventional sill arrangement couldn't be used.

This was not simply a case of measuring existing openings and manufacturing replacement windows. The way the aluminium frames interfaced with the stonework required specialist design work before the final specification could progress to the planning application.

It is precisely the sort of property where genuinely made-to-measure windows matter. Everest aluminium windows are manufactured specifically for each installation rather than being standard-sized units adapted on site.

A complex project can add time

This was a project where the customer expectations on installation time were challenged.  Due to the specialist aluminium frame installation within the stonework, additional design work was required before the planning application could be submitted. That process took longer than even we had anticipated.

Mr and Mrs T were frustrated by this delay but we hope that the wait was worth it with their wounderful home now looking resplendent with the Sage Green really standing out against the traditional stonework.

A completely different look

Asked what the best thing about their new installation was, the homeowners highlighted the aesthetics. And that is where this project really stands out.

Across the beautiful property, the Sage Green frames complement the stone rather than competing with it. The slim aluminium sections retain as much glass as possible across the larger group of windows, while the matching uPVC casements and door mean there is continuity throughout the scheme.

Everest coloured windows allow the frame to become part of the architecture rather than simply a functional element or a jarring colour. Sage Green was the perfect colour choice for the colour of the stone and the architectural styling of the property.

Everest project summary

For a home where natural stone is such a strong architectural feature, the final project feels considered rather than imposed. Sage Green was a great selection by a visionary customer that softens the aluminium and uPVC frames against the masonry to give the whole property a coherent finish.

Fitting 24 bespoke aluminium windows directly into existing stonework required careful design, a specialist sill-free installation and a different drainage solution. Bringing those windows together with seven uPVC casements and a uPVC residential door required attention to the overall appearance of the property rather than considering each product in isolation.

The finished result was certainly worth getting right and we hope that Mr and Mrs T enjoy the windows and doors for many years to come.
