Changing Rooms (1996 - 2004, BBC One) (2021 - Present, Channel 4 )

As one of the first big home improvement shows, Changing Rooms appeared on our screens in 1996 and after a hiatus, the show returned in 2021 on Channel 4. The original BBC One show was hosted by Carol Smillie before Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen became the face of the new edition on Channel 4.


Each show had two sets of homeowners swapping houses and redecorating a room in each other's homes with the help of a professional designer. The more unmissable episodes usually involved a certain horror from a clash of personal tastes. Or an emotional breakdown from a dramatic change.


The appeal of Changing Rooms was in the blend of creativity, unexpected transformations, and the personalities of the interior designers.



Property Ladder (2001 - 2009, Channel 4)

Property ladder ran for seven series, hosted by popular TV presenter Sarah Beeny, following property developers renovating properties to make a profit. Beeny’s no-nonsense approach and expertise in property development were integral to the show's success.


A firm favourite with aspiring property developers, first-time buyers, and those interested in the real estate market. Property Ladder offered a behind-the-scenes look at the highs and lows of property renovation with some practical advice on investment returns.


The financial crisis in 2008 changed the property market considerably, so in 2009, the show was re-titled Property Snakes & Ladders to reflect the increased risk involved. This was the last series of Property Ladder, although Sarah Beeny did return to our screens in 2012 with ‘Sarah Beeny’s Double your house for half the money’.





DIY SOS (1999 - 2010) DIY SOS The Big Build (2010 - present)

DIY SOS first appeared on our screens when similar TV shows such as Changing Rooms were proving to be a TV hit. From 1999-2010 the show hosted by Nick Knowles would get a team of professionals to rectify DIY projects gone wrong in viewers’ homes.
