How to Fix Stiff or Loose uPVC Window Hinges

A common problem for uPVC windows is being too stiff to open, or too loose and they won’t stay open. Our step-by-step guide and video shows you how to fix a stiff or loose window handle.

A common problem for uPVC windows is that they are either too stiff and hard to open. They are too loose and can blow open in the wind or a breeze. Or, they won’t stay open. These are all very easy problems to resolve in a few minutes with a screwdriver.

Everest uPVC casement windows are made with friction stays on the hinges. These operate by adding friction to make the window stiffer to open or the opposite, less friction, making it easier to open.

To fix a stiff or loose window, simply turn the screw the right way to adjust the friction stay on the window hinge.

All uPVC window frames need maintenance to keep them in good working order. Even quality windows like the ones we make at Everest will need attention a few times a year to keep them at their best.

Watch our Everest Expert video below to see where you can locate the screws on the friction hinge and adjust them.
