How to Fix a Stuck Tilt and Turn Window

Common tilt and turn window problems are: The window becomes stuck open in tilt, drops or feels jammed and won't close. Our step-by-step guide and video shows you how to fix these problems.

Tilt and turn windows are one of the most well-engineered windows on the market and a popular choice of style for windows. But, the common problems for tilt and turn windows are:

  • The window becomes stuck in the tilt open position.
  • The window feels ‘jammed’ and won’t close.
  • The window drops and tilts to one side and won’t close.

These are all very simple issues to fix in seconds.

Tilt and turn windows have a double-opening mechanism that allows you to open the window and to select a tilt position. If they are not operated correctly, they easily become jammed.

The usual culprit for tilt and turn window problems is after cleaning. The mechanism allows the window to be opened inwards to be cleaned. What most people don’t know is that there is a trigger button just below the handle along the edge of the window. This is easily pressed when cleaning.

To fix the issue with your tilt and turn window, you just locate the trigger button to press and release.

Beware: never try to close or force the window if it feels jammed and won’t close. This will damage the hinge and mechanism.

Watch our Everest expert in the video below to see where you can locate the trigger button to enable you to close your window.
