Health, Safety & Environmental Advisor

Everest have an exciting new opportunity within the business for a Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor, to be field based, covering our sites in the North.

As the Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor you will work with key stakeholders to ensure working practices are safe and comply with legislation. You will prepare H&S strategies, lead in-house training and develop internal policies.

The role:

  • Assisting in the management of risk assessment programmes, of all types, to ensure they are completed to a sufficient standard, controlling the level of risk to a tolerable level and remaining compliant with UK legislation.
  • Coaching and mentoring line managers and their teams to ensure they are meeting the necessary high standards of risk management and in doing so, driving continuous improvement.
  • Supporting accident and incident investigations, ensuring root causes are accurately identified and timely corrective actions are put in place to permanently resolve.
  • Carrying out inspections of Contractors and in house Permits to Work.
  • Challenging any unsafe acts and conditions with the aim of maintaining a safe place of working.
  • Being the champion of safe behaviours by carrying out shop floor inspections and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Conducting monthly Safety meetings with all business units and relevant departments.
  • Ensuring all new starters to the business go through the required on boarding H&S training.
  • Developing and delivering training programmes.
  • Environmental management responsibilities.
  • Ensuring all practices are compliant with legislation and remaining up to date with any changes which may impact the business.

Skills, Experience & Competencies:

  • Previous experience in a Health and Safety advisory level position, ideally within a manufacturing and/or construction environment.
  • Relevant H&S qualification, with NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum.
  • Experience in carrying out risk assessments.
  • Excellent awareness of H&S compliance and legislation.
  • Previous experience carrying out accident and incident investigations and internal audits.
  • Confident communicator, to include coaching, listening and observing.
  • Able to work collaboratively and also independently.
  • Ability to travel across various sites across the South of England and Wales.
