Window Furniture FAQs

What are window fittings & hardware?

Window fittings are all the additional parts of the window that are added to the actual frame and help to lock and close the window. Such as:

  • Window handles
  • Restrictors
  • Pulls
  • Hinges

How do I fix a loose window handle?

A loose window handle will usually be a result of normal wear and tear that causes the screws to loosen.

To fix the loose window handle, remove the cover of the handle and tighten the screws.

If the screws won’t tighten the handle might need replacing.

How do I replace a window handle?

If you are changing your window handle with the same size and style, it’s a relatively quick and easy job.

At Everest, on our double glazed windows, we use handles that are universal to fit the screw holes. This allows you to easily change the colour of your window handle.

If you are changing a window handle, you must make sure the new handle fits into the existing holes on the window frame.

How do I clean window hardware?

To clean window fittings and handles:

  • Use a warm soap/water solution to wash any dirt off the window and hardware
  • Rinse with clean water
  • Use a soft cloth or towel to immediately dry all fittings
  • Buff with a soft cloth to get a shine

Do not use any abrasive cleaning solutions or scourers as this can scratch and damage the surface of the hardware. Do not use bleach on a uPVC or composite door as this can discolour the material surface.
