Triple Glazed Windows from Everest

Triple glazed windows are perfect for rooms that never get the direct sunlight, are north facing, or always feel cold. They can transform a room to be cosy and warm whilst helping to reduce your energy bill and your carbon footprint.

The superior energy efficiency is why triple glazing has been a standard in many european countries for years, and the UK is now starting to recognise how they can transform a home.

The step up from double glazing costs far less than most people expect and can enhance the appeal and value of your home. You can consider fitting north or east facing windows in triple and the rest of the house in double to optimise the efficiency of your home with a mix and match approach.

Available in uPVC casement frames, uPVC flush casement, tilt and turn and bay window styles, triple glazing is suitable for most styles of property.

Why choose triple glazing?

Triple glazing is the most energy efficient window you can fit in a UK home:

  • The lowest heat loss you can buy. Everest triple glazed flush casement windows are A++ rated with a U-value of 1.0 W/m²K. The U-value measures how much heat escapes through a window, and lower is better. New A+ double glazing reaches 1.3, older double glazing sits around 2.4 and single glazing can be 4.8 or worse.
  • Rooms that hold their warmth. The inner pane stays closer to room temperature, so the cold zone next to the glass disappears and your heating stops working overtime to replace warmth you have already paid for.
  • Lower energy bills and a smaller carbon footprint. Less heat escaping means less energy used to keep the house comfortable, all year round.
  • A better EPC rating. Windows contribute to the energy certificate every home needs when it is sold or let, and buyers increasingly look at it.
  • A future-proofed home. UK building standards are moving steadily towards lower U-values, and the Climate Change Committee recommends triple glazing for all new build homes, where it is expected to become the standard within the next few years.
  • Far less extra cost than most people expect. Everest triple glazing costs about 10% to 20% more than the equivalent double glazed windows, making it a more affordable option than a few years ago.

As Future Homes Standards are introduced, the energy efficiency of a home and U-values for windows will become more important. At Everest, we believe that triple glazed windows will become more important and that triple glazed windows will become a requirement in all new build houses as the standards for the fabric of buildings keep increasing.

By choosing Everest triple glazed windows now, we will help you to future-proof your home with the best products for energy efficiency and the environment.

Is triple glazing better than double glazing?

Based on U-values, Everest energy efficient triple glazing is two-and-a-half times more energy efficient than old double glazing and around one-and-a-half times more efficient than Everest energy saving double glazing

Is triple glazing right for me?

Triple glazing is a strong choice if:

  • Your windows are more than 15 years old. This is the biggest step up available, and the one you will not need to revisit in ten years.
  • You have rooms that never quite warm up. North and east facing rooms, rooms that get no direct sunlight, and anywhere with a permanent cold spot beside the window.
  • Your home is exposed. Coastal properties, open countryside and anywhere that takes the brunt of the weather lose more heat through their windows.
  • You are staying put. If this is a long term home, fitting the warmest windows available now means the decision is made once.
  • You want to spend where it counts. Fitting triple on your north and east facing windows and double elsewhere gets you the efficiency where it matters most, without doing the whole house in triple.

Triple glazing is not the right option if:

  • If you already have recent A rated double glazing, the efficiency gain is more modest. Comfort, not savings, becomes the main reason to upgrade.
  • If noise is your main problem, triple glazing is not the fix. Reducing sound depends on varied glass thicknesses and wider gaps rather than a third pane, and secondary glazing does that job better.

Frequently asked questions about triple glazing:

What is triple glazing and how does it work?

Triple glazing has three panes of glass held together in a glazing unit with two insulating air gaps that slow down the thermal transfer of cold or heat through the unit.

The most energy efficient double and triple glazing units are filled with Argon gas which reduces thermal transfer compared to just standard air gas.

The deeper the unit, the more insulating the glazed unit is. Everest double glazed sealed units have a unit depth of 24mm, whilst Everest triple glazed sealed units have a unit depth of 36mm.

How much does triple glazing cost

When buying new windows there are a variety of options that make a difference to how much your new triple glazing windows will cost, such as frame style, material, size, and colour.

As all Everest windows are bespoke made, we cannot offer a standard stock price, but as a guide, Everest triple glazing costs 10-20% more than double glazing.

Is triple glazing worth it?

Everest triple glazing is two and a half times as efficient as old double glazing and only costs 10%-20% more than new double glazed windows.

The superior efficiency of triple glazing can help to create a house that reduces carbon emissions and uses less energy to heat.

Triple glazing also creates more comfort in your home with less cold spots next to windows.

Ultimately, it’s a personal choice based on your own requirements. But, as U-values become more important for homes and can contribute to better EPC ratings, triple glazing is becoming more popular in the UK.

How long does triple glazing last?

Triple glazing should for at least 20 years, but this depends on the quality of the window units and the quality of the installation.

Of course, windows can last far longer than their predicted lifetime and many houses have windows that are over 30 years old - if they've been well-maintained.

A considerable factor that can influence the lifespan is the position and how exposed the window is. For example, a south-facing window that gets a lot of sun or a coastal facing property will have a shorter lifespan due to excessive weathering.

Do triple glazed windows reduce noise?

Many people mistakenly think that triple glazing is more soundproof than double glazing because there are three panes of glass. Triple glazing does not reduce sound more than efficient double glazing and should not be a factor for anyone upgrading to triple glazing.

Does triple glazing reduce condensation?

Triple glazing helps to reduce condensation because it acts as a thermal barrier between the outside cold and inside warmth. Condensation happens when moisture in the air forms on a cool surface.

As triple is so thermally efficient, it will reduce condensation on the inside of the room.

Note, that condensation can happen on the external side of a window and this is nothing to worry about. But if you see fogging and condensation on the inside of a sealed unit, this can mean your unit seal has failed and it will need to be replaced.
